Irish Passports- Update from the Embassy of Ireland, Ottawa

Please note, as of June 8, 2020, the Passport Service has resumed services.

However, only first time applications and renewals of passports that expired over 5 years ago will be accepted at the Embassy.

All renewals must use the Passport Online service. Please note, passport numbers must have two letters and seven numbers to use the service (i.e. PT7654321). All paper applications for renewals will be returned to use the Passport Online service.

While the Embassy will begin accepting applications, delays in processing will occur due to the current backlog. These delays are also in effect for Passport Online. The Passport Service is working hard to bring the backlog up to date.

If you need a passport for travel in a genuine emergency (death or serious illness of a family member or for emergency medical treatment of the applicant), please contact the Passport Service through the Webchat service.
